My Favorite (bi)Cycling Team—Team Buttheads: Cheeky Riders 6/17

On September 17 and 18, 2022, my favorite cycling team will be riding their bikes in the Huntington Towpath Trail Century Ride. They will pedal 101 miles—from Cleveland to New Philadelphia—with other riders...all in support of the Towpath Trail that our family frequently enjoys.

Team Buttheads: Cheeky Riders is a team of just two: my husband, Al Bartholet, and my daughter, Lysa Anderson. This is their third ride, so I know they know how much training is required to be successful.

Typically, they start training in late April/early May. They ride 20 or 25 miles to start, building to 40 and 50 and more. They ride early in the morning or late in the afternoon. They ride when it’s cold or when it’s hot (92 degrees was their hottest training ride last year). Each has crashed during a training ride, but neither has been seriously hurt (pride is often the biggest casualty).

As I write this post, I can hear them in the kitchen as they set up their new (matching) helmets, which are designed to play their music and, more importantly, make them able to talk to each other while they are riding. In my eyes, they are high-tech in a low-tech sport.

I hope you will cheer on Team Buttheads: Cheeky Riders on the days of their rides or by making a gift specifically to their team. Every gift made to every team is a gift to the Ohio-Erie Canalway Towpath Trail...and will be used to pave those unpaved spots and to maintain the rest of the Towpath Trail. Check out their team page (and lots of photos) in the link, below.

Biking! It’s cheaper than filling up your gas tank and taking a drive!
